GOA NOTE - Ideal for Picnics, Boating and Memories

Ideal for Picnics, Boating and Memories

by PURVI RADIA

People are always fond of tranquil places with a spread of water with beautiful sound of birds chirping around and experiencing the fascinating beauty of nature, overlooking the houses hidden in the steep slopes.

Mayem Lake is one such place where you can enjoy the beauty of nature. Still wondering why Mayem Lake? This is because Mayem Lake is a charming tiny lake bounded with undulating emerald hills and the common aquatic bird species. The placid spread of water is a major tourist attraction for international tourists as well as local, who can enjoy the ride on the small pedal boats taking pleasure from the beautiful landscape around.

Thinking of how far is it from the main city and where it is located? Then this answers your question. Mayem Lake is situated at Mayem village near Bicholim. It is about 35 kilometers from Panaji city.

You will fall in love with this place. Just turn up at this spot and feel the difference from the exotic beaches and the exuberant discos. This place is ideal for picnickers and nature lovers. And I really mean it. The route to the lake will take you along villages littered with dark green forest, lush green fields and vast plantations of cashew. After lunch the boat ride was an exhilarating adventure for me.

A group of local boys, informed me that this place is ideal for picnickers, boating and enjoyment. One of the boys from the group named Sarvesh, said, The placid environment and a spectacular view often attracts them during the holidays for picnics.

Affirming this, the restaurant owner, Mr Vaman Naguekar too said, Most of the people come here to enjoy the calm and composed nature, not only that, also to take long leisurely rides in the pedal boats and get sound sleep in the lap of mother earth, listening to the sound of birds and nature.

The best part of Mayem is its cool breeze that blows throughout the day. If you are looking out for a shelter then the Goa Tourism Development Corporation (GTDC) has built cottages in the area. The park located on the banks of the lake holds an excellent cafeteria and several other stalls selling lemon juice and tender coconut water.

It was a great pleasure for me, experiencing the never seen before bliss of nature. The spectacular place with its adventure and the tranquility made my picnic much enjoyable. Along with us there were many who arrived here to enjoy the popular picnic spot. The memories of this fabulous Lake captured in my camera will always be cherished and remembered for the fun and frolic we had together. So come here at this picnic spot and make fond memories in your mind and photo album.
